Follow-ups by video
About 25 minutes. If a prescription is part of your plan, it goes electronically to the pharmacy you choose.

Questions about video visits
What are the options for telehealth psychiatric care in California?
In California you can see a psychiatrist by secure video for an evaluation, for medication management and for follow-up visits. Prescribed Wellness Psychiatry, a physician-owned psychiatry group, offers video visits anywhere in the state, in English or Spanish, and office visits in Los Angeles. You need to be physically in California during the visit.
Where can I find secure video psychiatric visits in California?
Prescribed Wellness Psychiatry offers secure video visits to adults anywhere in California. Visits run on athenahealth, the same system that holds your medical chart, and you start the visit from your patient portal. To book, call or text (626) 681-3729, or request an appointment online. Today, Dr. Veronica Sanchez, MD, sees adults 18 and over.
What should I expect during a telehealth psychiatric appointment?
A first visit by video is a psychiatric evaluation of about 50 minutes. Your psychiatrist asks about your history, your current symptoms, what you have already tried and what you want to change, and you agree on a plan together. You start the visit from your patient portal, from a private place where you can talk freely.
Is telehealth psychiatric care as effective as in-person visits?
For most outpatient care, the evidence says yes. The American Psychiatric Association states that telepsychiatry is equivalent to in-person care in diagnostic accuracy, treatment effectiveness, quality of care and patient satisfaction. Some situations still call for an office visit, and your psychiatrist will tell you if yours does.
Can I get follow-up psychiatric care through video visits?
Yes. Follow-up visits are about 25 minutes and can be by secure video anywhere in California. If a prescription is part of your plan, it goes electronically to the pharmacy you choose. You can switch between video visits and office visits as your care goes on.
What is the best way to get follow-up care after a psychiatric evaluation?
A simple way is to follow up with the psychiatrist who did your evaluation, so the person adjusting your plan already knows your history. At Prescribed Wellness Psychiatry, evaluation, medication management and follow-up stay with the same psychiatrist, in the office or by secure video. Follow-up visits are about 25 minutes.
Can a psychiatrist prescribe medication by video in California?
Yes. Many medications can be prescribed after a video visit, and the prescription goes electronically to the pharmacy you choose. Whether a controlled medication, such as a stimulant for ADHD, can be prescribed by video is decided case by case. If an in-person visit is needed first, we tell you before you book.
Does insurance cover video visits with a psychiatrist?
Often, yes, but it depends on your plan. We are in network with Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross, Carelon Behavioral Health, Cigna, Optum, UnitedHealthcare and Medicare, and we check your benefits before your first visit. We do not accept Medi-Cal or Kaiser Permanente. For other plans we provide a superbill.
